Woman carrying farm food

According to Feeding America, 87% of the counties with the highest risk of food insecurity in America are rural. Even as most farming takes place in those rural areas, the farmer’s next-door-neighbor is often the one battling hunger. And Claire Babineaux-Fontenot is one determined woman with a mission to help serve those vulnerable communities and find new ways to provide food security during the global pandemic.

Marji Alaniz, founder of FarmHer, talks candidly with Claire about her upbringing in Louisiana, her cancer diagnosis and how that diagnosis played a role in her path to the CEO of the non-profit organization, Feeding America.

Shifting focus from her executive role in the corporate world to her extraordinary leadership impacting the food insecure world, listen to Claire’s belief that farmers are the backbone of food security and how Feeding America helps feed over 40 million people and 5 billion meals. Through food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, and other community-based agencies, Claire’s impact on food insecurity can be seen through her passion and actions.

FarmHer is an organization that celebrates and lifts women who are a part of agriculture through their stories. Together, Nationwide and FarmHer have shared a long running relationship with a mutual appreciation for supporting these women. Through the Everybody Eats partnership, we encourage you to explore these educational, empowering and inspirational women and to share their stories with your community.
