From start to finish it’s possible to complete the process in less than 1 minute. Please note the process may take longer if you decide to make additional changes such as editing the coverage limits.

In most cases base policy coverage also includes rented vehicles. However, there are a number of exceptions to this coverage extension, and we strongly suggest you review your policy documents to ensure you understand your rental car coverage.

Yes, in most situations the named insured can add their child’s vehicle onto the same policy. Children of policyholders (named insured and spouse) usually fall into the” resident youthful driver” category. A resident youthful driver is defined as a child under the age of 25, who resides in the same household as the policyholder.

But please keep in mind there are some specific scenarios where the child’s vehicle would need to be written on a separate policy. For example, in North Carolina, if the vehicle is titled in the child’s name, the vehicle must be insured on a separate policy. We suggest you review your policy documents for specific coverage details for your state.

Your new proof of insurance/ID card will be made available in your online account immediately after the update is finalized.

At this time, backdated changes are not allowed in either the mobile app or in your online account. Please call the Solutions Center at 1-877-669-6877 within 30 days of purchasing the vehicle to have it added to your policy.

Please note that if you purchase a new vehicle or add another vehicle to your policy, you do NOT receive free coverage. Your policy does have “coverage extension” for newly added vehicles. This coverage is part of the base policy, and the cost is already included in Nationwide’s base rates.

There are also state-specific rules governing how and when physical damage (comprehensive & collision) and liability coverages can extend to new vehicles.

The lien/leaseholder information should be added at the time the vehicle is purchased / added to the policy. If this information is not added at the time of purchase, it needs to be added as soon as possible.

No. The only vehicles you’re allowed to add to your policy are vehicles titled to your household members.

*SmartRide program criteria differ in California and North Carolina. Stated discounts are approximations. Discounts do not apply to all coverage elements; actual savings vary by state, coverage selections, rating factors and policy changes. Enrollment discount applies during data collection; final discount is calculated on driving behavior and could be zero. Final discount applies at the next policy renewal and is subject to change based upon actuarial support at subsequent renewals or with changes in drivers or vehicles on the policy.

SmartMile’s monthly estimated mileage varies based on the number of days in each month of your policy term, as determined by your policy effective date. Cost per mile is subject to change during your policy period if any changes are made to the policy. Please refer to your policy declarations page for the total cost per mile. Estimated vehicle premium is subject to change based on actual miles driven during the mileage period and any changes made to the policy. The SmartMiles safe driving behavior discount is between 0%-10% and does not apply to all coverages. Discount applies at the next policy renewal and remains in effect while the vehicle is enrolled in SmartMiles. Availability and actual savings may vary by state, coverage selections, rating factors and policy changes.

[1] Average annualized savings on home and auto premiums, compared to stand-alone price of each policy, based on national data from May 2020. Actual savings will vary based on state, policy coverage selections, and rating factors.

Our recommendation is that your policy is written in the correct base state in relation to where the vehicle(s) will be garaged. If you have special circumstances, please consult with your Nationwide agent, or call the Solutions Center at 1-877-669-6877.
