Like other types of insurance, snowmobile insurance policies consist of collision, liability and comprehensive coverage. The policy limits you set should be based on the total value of the snowmobile as well as how much you could be sued for in the event of a liability dispute. Snowmobile insurance is a requirement in some states and is always a smart idea to avoid paying out of pocket for damages. Learn more about specific snowmobile coverages below.

Snowmobile insurance coverages

This snowmobile insurance coverage helps pay for damages to another person’s vehicle or property if you cause an accident. Most states require liability coverage.

Comprehensive

Also known as “other than collision,” this coverage can help pay for damage to your vehicle from vandalism, theft, weather events and accidents involving animals. This coverage also protects custom parts and equipment.

Uninsured motorist

UM coverage helps protect you and your snowmobile from uninsured drivers and hit-and-run accidents. Each state has its own uninsured motorist laws. Coverage is subject to policy coverage provisions and limits.

Underinsured motorist

If you’re in an accident with a driver who does not have enough insurance to cover the costs of an accident, this coverage steps in. Coverage is subject to policy provisions and limits.

OEM endorsement

This policy add-on helps ensure that your vehicle is repaired with new parts from the original equipment manufacturer (OEM), whenever available. If an OEM part is not available, we’ll issue payment based on the fair market value of the new OEM part. Available for vehicles less than 10 years old.

Liability coverage for snowmobiles

Liability helps cover medical costs for bodily injury to others and property damage to others if you’re at fault in an accident. It can also pay the injured party's lost wages and help cover your legal expenses if a lawsuit is brought against you due to an accident. Many state laws require liability coverage.
